The Care Quality Commission is the body responsible for ensuring that all health and social care providers across the UK provide a high standard of care to their patients at all times. The term ‘Health and Social care providers’ covers a range of individuals and organisations, from independent consultations, to dentists, hospitals, mental health providers and providers of diagnostic services. The list is endless.

As part of their responsibility for ensuring that all health and social care providers are providing a high level of care at all times, the Care Quality Commission, or CQC as they are abbreviated to, states that all providers must register with them. This enables the CQC to review each application for registration, and to then complete a site visit whereby the quality of the services provided can be reviewed. In addition, once an organisation is recorded as ‘registered’ with the Care Quality Commission, this regulatory body can then undertake ongoing compliance monitoring of the provider, to ensure that crucial standards in care delivery continue to be maintained.
